Paula Spencer delivered our keynote.   Paula is the founding director of the oldest homeschool choir in the Houston area.  Joyful Sound! Choir opened up our conference with a performance of the Star Spangled Banner.  (www.joyfulsoundchoir.org)

Magnify Dance Company performed a dance to further inspire us to be joyful.  Magnify is offering classes at REC this year, so visit their website if you want to join this awesome, talented dance group!  www.magnifydance.org

Renee LoDolce presented a workshop on college out of the box & Reflections from a "retired" homeschool mom (www.collegeoutofthebox.com)

Jube Dankworth presented a workshop on Texas Field Trips & Frugal Homeschooling (texashomeeducators.org)

HSLDA attorney, Tom Sanders presented a workshop on the history of homeschooling in Texas and gave us an overview of our rights as homeschooling families.  HSLDA sent some excellent literature booklets to REC, feel free to stop by anytime and pick up your copy.  And dont forget to consider a membership with HSLDA,  the longest standing homeschool legal advocacy group in the US.  (www.hslda.org)

Battleground Ministries presented the topic of preventing the culture from capturing our kids/families.  They encouraged us to live strong in the culture and gave practical tools and resources to give hope and help to overcome.  Visit their website for access to some of their fabulous tools!  (www.battlegroundministries.org)

Lara Aston spoke about how to homeschooling through difficult circumstances (such as a medically fragile child).  

Lori Huber spoke on overcoming overwhelm, encouraging us to not listen to the lies the enemy tells us that overwhelm us (you aren't good enough) and shared on her own personal struggle with depression and what the other side of that looks like today.  If you missed her at the conference, you can visit Lori's blog at www.lorihuber.com

Spell to Write and Read instructors, Carolyn Gibbons and Rhonda Bedee presented a mini-crash course on how to use this spelling program.  Rhonda and Carolyn teach this course throughout the state of Texas, so visit their website to find out when their next session is so that YOU can learn how to use this program in your homeschool!  (sir-texastrainers.net)

ABOUT US

REC is an event center that hosts events such as weddings, corporate events, conferences, business seminars & commercial kitchen space.  Our vision is to allow the homeschool community to use this space for coop classes, sporting events, performing arts & extra curricular activities.  Our plan is to host homeschool conferences to better equip families on their homeschool journey and act as  a support to the homeschool community in general.

Our 30,000 square foot building sits on 2 beautiful acres.  We have over 14 classrooms, a full gym, a small gym, a commercial kitchen and a fabulous performing arts area that accommodates seating up to 400.
